These are our rendition of the nightmare goggles. These are functionally identical to the original ones from the Vietnam war era, with a few improvements. First of all the design is simplified so that it’s always in the correct configuration to be able to exhibit the anomalous properties. This greatly increases the repeatability, and therefore the likelihood of encountering high strangeness. Secondly the lenses are made of optical glass this improves the clarity and performance of the lenses while also making them far more durable than the original version. Thirdly these are constructed entirely of modern materials which means they are serviceable as all parts and components are entirely replaceable.

Operating conditions: Anomalous properties are most likely to be encountered in low light, high stress environments. Such as the middle of a war or in haunted locations. These are designed to take advantage of macro scale quantum mechanics, namely the observer effect and the Heisenberg uncertainty principal. Operationally speaking the less certain you are about what it is you’re seeing the more potent the anomalous effects become. The practical upshot of this is that they’re relatively benign in daylight conditions.
